DIET

Stress&digestion.jpg

Inflammation is the main connection between autoimmune diseases and the digestive system. When you have food allergies or sensitivities, such as gluten or nightshades, your food can be poorly digested which can cause swelling in within your internal organs.

Your autoimmune system can view this inflammation as a toxic or a disease that it needs to treat. It attacks that organ to stop the inflammation but actually makes the swelling worse. Dairy products, wheat, and alcohol are great examples of items that cause inflammation.

Prebiotics and Probiotics are a necessary balance that should be a primary goal to achieve when dealing with your diet, as well as vitamins and basic nutrition necessary to achieve overall good health.

The AIP, Keto and WHALS are all examples of diets that were developed to reduce inflammation and prevent and/or recover from "Leaky Gut " disorder. A 30-day elimination phase is the most restrictive part of all three diets and is followed by slowly reintroducing certain foods back into your food allowances.  This is one of the most challenging phases of a road to better health.  Restaurants, friends and family have to put up with you being "one of THOSE people."   Phrases such as "Is it free-range chicken?"  "Is it grass fed beef?"  "I can't have this can you substitute that with...".  "Is your dog a rescue?'   It's tough but the rewards are great and you will see a difference within 30 days.  It's remarkable really. Try it and may the force be with you.
